You SO Black!!
I remember being a little girl and being called "Black" by a white classmate. The way they said it was with such disdain and hate as if Black was the worst thing I could be. They sang a sing-song taunt "Black girl, Black girl, you just a little Black girl." The taunt was confusing because I was a little Black girl, but I knew it was not what they meant. Even at a young age, I knew it wasn't what a person said, it was how they said it. And no matter how they said it, I understood Black to be what this poet said. So, no matter what or how they say it, Black people I want you to understand that You So Black... Happy Black History Month, today and every day.
